Polarimetric Calibration Technique for a Fully Polarimetric Entomological Radar Based on Antenna Rotation

For entomological radar, the polarization information of target is usually used to estimate biological parameters, such as orientation, body length, and mass, insect. Thus, accuracy measurement directly affects performance parameters’ estimation. The error mainly caused by imbalance amplitude phase between two channels crosstalk dual-polarization antenna. In order obtain correct target, polarimetric calibration radar required. This paper proposes a new technique based on antenna rotation, which does not require calibrator have specific scattering matrix (PSM). Compared with currently existing techniques, no prior knowledge PSM required (in fact, any fixed-point can be calibrator); thus, errors introduced mechanical process avoided. Simulations data measured verify effectiveness method. method has potential extended other fully systems in future, weather synthetic aperture (SAR), so on.
